Software modification, not hardware

Every modern vehicle has an Engine Control Unit (ECU) that manages operation through a map — a computer program. Stage 1 remapping modifies the parameters of this mapping — turbo pressure, injection timing, torque limit — to extract more power and efficiency from the engine without any mechanical changes.
